Aqua Vital acquires Kalimba

Presence in Belgian and Dutch water dispenser markets established

Aqua Vital (Neuss), the leading provider of water dispensers in Germany, has acquired Kalimba NV (Lanaken/Belgium). The acquisition opens a succession path for the company’s founders, who had started the business in 1996. Focusing on bottled water coolers, they had expanded from Belgium to The Netherlands and Germany.

Aqua Vital became a part of Halder’s portfolio in July 2013. From € 18 million (2012), the company has grown organically and by add-on investments, e. g. the acquisition of revos in 2014, to € 34 million in sales revenues (2016).

As Aqua Vital has generated most of its sales in the domestic market, the acquisition is the next step towards a more international business: a sales office in Austria was established in 2014 and Kalimba broadens the company’s presence to additional markets in Western Europe. Based on a largely identical business model focused on renting dispensers, Kalimba will continue to use its own brand as a part of Aqua Vital Group. It will adopt the parent company’s successful direct marketing approach to accelerate growth.

Halder has been active in Germany since 1991 and has provided 38 SMEs with capital for ownership succession and growth. Investee companies grow by internationalisation, focusing their strategy and business model, comprehensive capital expenditure and add-on investments. Halder currently manages a € 325 million fund and a portfolio of seven mid-cap investments.
